Pat Newton
Office Administrator

Pat joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island in October 2015. She previously worked as an accountant for Big Sisters in Vancouver for more than 25 years. She volunteers with the Nanaimo Women’s Resources Society, Seniors Aging Out, Better at Home with Nanaimo Family Life, and with two Syrian refugee initiatives through Brechin United Church. As someone who was a high-school drop out and briefly homeless herself as a teenager, she has worked hard for more than forty years to provide support to the most marginalized women and children in our community so they may become more self-sufficient and resilient. This is with profound gratitude to those who reached out a helping hand when she was in need. Her graduate research for her Master’s degree in History focused on the scientific education of girls and young women in London in the mid- to late-19th century. She may (or may not) consider completing her PhD as a retirement project.
